Preparation
Before polishing a floor, the contractor will ensure it is thoroughly swept and cleaned. Contractors will also need to move all furniture to the centre of the room or remove it entirely. The Polishing Process
1. Before polishing, contractors will use a gentle cleanser to remove any dirt or contaminants embedded into the floor's grout lines. If required, they will then treat the grout with an appropriate sealant.
2. The contractor will then apply a pre-grout conditioner using a sponge mop before rinsing it off with water.
3. The contractor will then apply a polish to the grout lines using a mop, followed by vigorous scrubbing of the floor with a brush on their hands and knees.
4. The contractor will rinse the floor once more before going over it with a wet vacuum to remove any excess moisture and grout.
5. A protective coating will then be applied to the floor using a pad applicator. This will need to cure completely before the contractor can move onto the next step.
6. Contractors will use a finer-grade pad and light compound to polish the tile, working around any obstacles such as fixtures or furniture
7. The contractor will then vacuum the room to remove any loose grout residue.
8. Moisture will be applied to the floor using a fine mist, followed by buffing with a soft cloth.
9. Contractors will apply the second layer of compound and polish before wiping away excess moisture with a cleaning cloth.
10. The contractor will use a third and final compound to polish the floor, this time using a terry cloth.
11. The cleaner will then wipe away excess grout residue before buffing the tile with a soft cloth.
12. The contractor will perform final checks to ensure no areas have been missed.
The Result
Once contractors have finished polishing, the floor will be noticeably shiny and covered in a protective coating. However, the result is only temporary, and regular cleaning with a household detergent will prevent product build-up and keep it looking clean and polished.
